DETROIT -- WPXI.com’s Carly Noel and Jessica Woiner headed to the Motor City to get a look at the new and exciting automobiles debuted from car makers around the world. Here’s a sneak peek of what Jessica and Carly experienced at the event. The Malibu sedan won car of the year, and Mazda's CX 9 won truck of the year. The CX 9 just won Motor Trend's sports utility vehicle in October. The best car award is GM's second in a row honor. Its Saturn Aura sedan won best car last year. Deciding factors for the awards are design, safety, handling and price. There is an increase in hybrid vehicles at the auto show this year. Lexus just came out with a new line of green vehicles. The Chevy area has green carpet that looks like grass. Not everyone is supporting the green cars. While eating lunch, I watched a protester get chased and later cuffed for trying to steal green balloons.Concepts that show-goers are talking about are the Ford Verve and Explorer America, Saturn Flextreme, Hummer HX and Nissan Forum. The small Verve is expected to be sold in North America in 2010. Ford plans to roll out the energy efficient Explorer in five years. The Saturn Volt may look like the Flextreme concept around 2010. The Hummer HX is a smaller SUV intended to compete with vehicles like the Jeep. The Nissan Forum is definitely the coolest minivan I've ever seen. Its body is curvy, instead of boxy. The Audi R8 concept could be this year's show stopper. The diesel sports car is beautiful and just looks like it could smoke other cars. It can go up to 186 MPH, but get this -- it gets 23 MPG. Our favorite concept is the Lincoln MKT. It is cool and classy looking. The luxury car is a potential new vehicle. Like the Explorer America, it is powered by a new EcoBoost engine. The Cadillac CTS V is a big hit at the show. Its engine is derived from the top Corvette. The Mercedes SLK is also turning heads. The Detroit three introduced new trucks this year as they are still leaders in the truck industry despite losing car sales. Ford showed off its new F 150; Chrysler unveiled its new Ram; and the hybrid Chevy Silverado is the centerpiece of GM's green display. As for the fun -- the Ford press conference was definitely the most exciting. It was the first press conference of the show and featured music and celebrities, including country star Toby Keith. We also ran into award-winning actress Kim Cattrall, who was there supporting Mercedes.Check back for cool slideshows and videos from the event!
