Beware When Ordering Flowers From 800 Number Florists, On Line

You May Not Always Get What You Pay For

Flip open the phone book or logon and you see big ads claiming to be a neighborhood florist.

But if they don't list a local address they are probably not in the neighborhood.

Mt. Troy Florist, Carole Aguglia said these are basically big calling companies based in other states.

She said many take a big chunk of money off orders before passing it on to a local florist.

The local florist then has to try and fill the order and deliver it for a lot less money than a customer paid.

You may pay $50, but by the time a local florist fills the order it may only be a $35 dollar bouquet.

And don't expect that bouquet to look like a picture you see on the internet.

Substitutes are allowed, so what are you likely getting for your money when you order that $50 bouquet from one of these non-local companies?

Target 11 consumer investigator Stacia Erdos decided to find out.

Erdos placed four orders for $50 bouquets.

Two from local florists and two from commonly advertised companies.

The two ordered directly from local florists were much larger than the other two.

The arrangements from BLOOMSTODAY and 1-800Flowers

Were much smaller and contained less expensive flowers like carnations and daisies.

The local flowers were much bigger and contained more expensive flowers like snapdragons, Gerber daisies, hydrangea and roses.

Even if you live out of town, you'll get more for your money by calling a local florist. Erdos contacted both out of town companies for a comment.

Davina Coard from 1-800-FLOWERS said the company supports local florists, and added," if a customer is not completely satisfied with their order we will redeliver, refund, credit or offer a comparable exchange..."

Don Mayer from BLOOMSTODAY.COM said the company offers a 100 percent money back guarantee and said, "…we happily send orders to a lot of florists and had a problem getting an order filled for customers across the country."
