WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. -- Officials in West Mifflin have confirmed a case of MRSA at an elementary school. An unidentified student at Homeville Elementary is believed to have become infected outside school property.Still, officials have fumigated the school and sent warnings about MRSA to all parents. The student is now under the care of a physician.West Mifllin's case of MRSA isn't the first confirmed case in the Pittsburgh-area, though. The Center Area School District in Beaver County put out a warning about MRSA to parents and students.District officials said the infection hit an athletic group, but they won't say which one or how many students contracted it.School officials have cleaned and disinfected all buildings, paying special attention to the athletic facilities.According to the Allegheny County Health Department, there were 200 cases of MRSA reported last year.Nearly all of them were isolated to a particular school, except for an outbreak affecting the Mount Lebanon High School football team.
