'Harry Potter' Star To Get Naked On Broadway

Radcliffe Reprising Controversial 'Equus' Role

Daniel Radcliffe is heading to Broadway with the role that caused a stir on London's West End last year.

Radcliffe is starring in a revival of the play "Equus," and like he did in London, Radcliffe will play the troubled stable boy, who appears naked on stage.

In an @ The Movies interview with Tim Lammers for the last "Harry Potter" movie, Radcliffe talked about the media backlash for leaping from the safe confines of Potter to the provocative role in "Equus."

"The press did a remarkably fast U-turn with 'Equus.' There was, I believe one headline in one particularly generous English newspaper which said, 'Crash. What's That Sound? It's The Sound Of A Career Coming To A Screening Halt' or something to that effect," Radcliffe said. "They were always going to say it and I was always going to set out to wrong-foot them."

And wrong-foot them he did: Radcliffe, who was 17 at the time, earned rave reviews for his performance in the London revival of the Tony Award-winning play.

Richard Griffiths, who plays Harry's mean Uncle Vernon in the "Harry Potter" movies, also is reprising the part he played in the London version of "Equus." He plays the psychiatrist who treats Radcliffe's character after he blinds six horses.

"Equus" begins previews Sept. 5 at the Broadhurst Theater and will run through Feb. 8.
