Professor Wrestling: TNA 'Slammiversary' Results

Samoa Joe: King?

Posted: 9:37 pm EDT June 5, 2008Updated: 7:39 am EDT June 9, 2008

Listen up!

Class is in session.

TNA's big show of the year, "Slammiversary," is history. How did I do on my picks? Like you need to ask?

Podcast: 'Old School, New School' -- Episode 78

X-Division Championship Match: Petey Williams (c) vs. Kaz
What Should Happen: Williams, now Scott Steiner's sidekick, is pound-for-pound one of the top grapplers on the planet. I like him with this title, and he shouldn't lose it. The babyface Kaz is OK, but not ready for this belt just yet.

What Will Happen: Williams will retain.

What Did Happen: Petey got the pin.

TNA Tag Team Championship Match: LAX (c) vs. Team 3D
What Should Happen: Brothers Bubba and Devon are better heels than babyfaces, in my opinion -- especially Bubba. LAX, managed by Hector Guerrero, has every reason to retain, and should here. This will be a fun match.

What Will Happen: LAX will keep their tag belts.

What Did Happen: LAX won it, with Devon getting pinned.

Challenge Match: Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles
What Should Happen: With Petey Williams, these two are among the best sports entertainers on the planet. The problem here is that Angle is coming off a neck injury, so I'm not sure which gear this match will be in -- if it comes off at all. There's no reason for Angle to win, since there's really nothing on the line. A victory by Styles could be the start of a nice, long action-packed fued.

What Will Happen: I'm going with Styles to pin Angle.

What Did Happen: Styles pinned Angle cleanly.

Time Capsule: 'What Happened' at 'Slammiversary' 2007?

TNA Heavyweight Title Match: Samoa Joe (cc) vs. Rhino vs. Christian Cage vs. Booker T vs. Robert Roode
What Should Happen: This is a "King Of The Mountain" match. What does that mean? Let me give it a shot. First, a wrestler has to pin someone -- or make someone submit. After that happens, that wrestler is then eligible to take the TNA belt and hang it on a hook above the ring. The first one to do that wins. Wrestlers who are pinned have to sit in a penalty box for two minutes. But when that two minutes is up, they still have a shot to win the match. Make sense? If not, don't blame me -- blame TNA for their idiotic gimmick matches!

At any rate, this one should be very exciting, but the champion -- Samoa Joe -- should win it. He hasn't been the champ that long, and to take the gold off his waist would be dumb. Besides Styles and Angle, he's the franchise.

What Will Happen: Lock of the night. Joe wins!

What Did Happen: Samoa Joe was the last man standing. He retains his TNA belt.

And that was the wrestling action for this show, kids. And once again, my predictions were right on. Perfect.

Speaking of perfection, you should download Episode 78 of "Old School, New School" -- the Professor Wrestling podcast. This week, Dr. Mike, George and yours truly tackle such topics as blading, gimmick matches and TV show bootleggers! Grab it RIGHT HERE!

Class is dismissed!
