Professor Wrestling: Recapping WWE's 'Survivor Series'

'Raw,' 'Smackdown!' Stars Face-Off

Posted: 10:23 pm EST November 24, 2005

Listen up!

Class is in session.

Last night, WWE hit the ring with 'Survivor Series,' shifting its focus from the tragic death of Eddie Guerrero to in-ring action as "the show must go on." Before we get to the matches, I'd like to thank all those who sent thoughtful e-mails concerning Guerrero's death. To say he will be missed is a staggering understatement.

With that said, let's forge ahead and check out what happened Sunday night.

Challenge Match: Teddy Long vs. Eric Bischoff
What Should Happen: This match doesn't belong on a pay-per-view. Neither man earns his living wrestling, and I should not have to pay to see them flail around in the ring. It's irritating to say the least. That being said, if the wrestling gods are good, Mr. Long will prevail.

What Will Happen: The fans will holla for Teddy has he gets the pin.

What Did Happen: Teddy won, with a little help from a freak named the Boogeyman.

WWE Women's Championship Match: Trish Stratus vs. Melina:
What Should Happen: Melina should win this one. She's a great heel, with nice acting skills. It's a perfect combination for a champ of this division.

What Will Happen: Melina will take the belt from Stratus.

What Did Happen: Trish won it, keeping her title.

WWE Championship Match: John Cena (c) vs. Kurt Angle
What Should Happen: Huh. I'm not sure what to think about this one. There's no way WWE is going to take the belt off of Cena, even though Angle is at his best in years. If I were in charge, I'd put the belt on Angle to see Cena chase the heel for a bit - just to make it interesting.

What Will Happen: Cena gets the win to keep his title.

What Did Happen: Angle tried everything in his power to cheat to win, but Cena still took it.

Last Man Standing Match: Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Ric Flair
What Should Happen: So far, so good in the HHH/Flair feud, as both stars have done their best to put on good matches. Since this isn't for Flair's I.C. title, it really doesn't matter who wins. I suspect Hunter will get the nod in a bloodfest.

What Will Happen: HHH will win with the pedigree.

What Did Happen: Hunter hit Flair with a pedigree in the end, but Ric wouldn't stay down. So HHH hit him in the back with his sledgehammer, and that did the trick.

Classic 'Survivor Series' Match: Team 'Raw' (Shawn Michaels, Kane, Big Show, Carlito and Chris Masters) vs Team 'Smackdown!' (Batista, JBL, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton and Lashley)
What Should Happen: I'd pay tribute to Eddie Guerrero and let Rey Mysterio get the final pin and the win for his team.

What Will Happen: I like Team "Smackdown!" -- with Rey making some noise.

What Did Happen: Team "Smackdown!" won it, as Orton pinned Michaels for the victory. Afterwards, the Undertaker came out to clear the ring.

That's it -- my "Survivor Series" 2005 picks. Add up the totals, and you'll see that I only missed one match. I should work in Vegas. And yes, at this moment, you should be amazed at my wondrous wisdom.

Now scram!

Class dismissed!
