Preview: Carlynton High School rehearses 'The Drowsy Chaperone'

The students of Carlynton High School will be performing “The Drowsy Chaperone” this spring.

The director and cast members said the show will have you falling out of your seat with laughter.

“It’s a modern show with traditional sensibilities, and it’s hilariously funny,” said director Rob James.

James is directing his sixteenth musical at the high school, and it's clear he loves directing.

“It’s great introducing the students to quality theater while uniting them in the joy of a job well done,” said James.

The cast has so much energy, making them a perfect fit for James’ choice of musical.  Lead Maggie Smith, who plays Janet Van De Graaf, is happy to work with such a talented group.

“My cast is having a blast. They’re always there for a good laugh, and they truly make the show what it is,” said Smith.

Although Smith loves working on the musical, she does find it challenging.

“My character is a show girl, so she does various tricks, which have taken a lot of time to master, but it was also a lot of fun,” said Smith.

Smith’s co-star JR Marshal, who plays Robert the Bridegroom, also finds his role challenging. His goofy character ends up roller-skating blindfolded, certainly a hard task to master. Despite this challenge, he has really assumed the role.

“All of our leads have developed seamlessly into their roles. The ensemble is outstanding and the show will be fantastic,” said Marshall.

The hard work of Carlynton High School will give you a truly unique experience.

“The Drowsy Chaperone” runs April 19-22.
