Jennifer Lopez to judge new 'World of Dance' competition on WPXI-TV

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — It was announced Wednesday superstar Jennifer Lopez will be taking on a new role as judge on NBC's new dance competition "World of Dance." The new series will give dancers the platform to showcase their talents and the opportunity to win a grand prize of $1 million.

The series brings the world's elite dancers together to compete in battles of artistry, precision and athleticism. Solo artists will compete against duos and crews in an unlimited range of dance, including hip-hop, krumping, popping, locking, tap, ballet, break dancing, ballroom, clogging, stomping and more.

"I identify with the struggles, passion, discipline, competition and exhilaration of dance," said Lopez. "I am excited that with this show we can skyrocket a dancer's career and help guide them to success."

"This show centers on the need to celebrate and reward the art and athleticism of the dance community and there is no one more passionate about that then Jennifer," said Meredith Ahr, President of Universal Television Alternative Studio.  "Her role at the judges' table takes our joint ambitions to the next level, and we can't wait to get started."
