CAMPUS SUPERSTAR 2008 WITH DAVID JOHNSON"WPXI's David Johnson to emcee Campus SuperStar 2008"
Campus Superstar 2008 will be held at 7 PM on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland. The Event is modeled after the popular television series, American Idol, Campus Superstar 2008 will feature 11 local college soloists competing for the title of Pittsburgh's Campus SuperStar, and a $5,000 scholarship prize. The 11 finalists to compete on April 6, 2008 are Micah Burket (Pitt), Bryan Matechen , (Point Park), Khrista Jana White (Point Park), Lora Lee Gayer (CMU), Zak Resnick (CMU), Ryan Townsend , (CMU), Jennifer Cherest (CMU), Nisha Asnani (CMU), Tim Ruff (CMU), Kyle Beltran (CMU), Andrea Festa (Duquesne).
Judging Campus SuperStar will be local celebrities, Etta Cox (Jazz Vocalist), Lynn Cullen (WPTT A.M./PCNC TV), and Richard Rauh (Actor/Philanthropist); Pittsburgh's David Johnson (WPXI) will emcee the event. Chancellor Mark Nordenberg and President Jared Cohon of Pitt and CMU will serve as honorary Co-Chairs of the event. The Event will honor Dr. Barbara S. Burstin for her many contributions to the Jewish and Pittsburgh communities over the past 20 years. Ticket proceeds will benefit the Edward and Rose Berman Hillel Jewish University Center of Pittsburgh.
This is Hillel's second annual Campus SuperStar competition. Seen Magazine cited Campus SuperStar 2007 in the top 15 percent of Pittsburgh fundraisers last year. Approximately 1,000 community members and students attended the competition, where Carnegie Mellon Freshman, Nick Cosgrove was awarded the $5,000 first prize. Cosgrove will perform again at this year's competition in April.
