Using veneers expands the types of wood and designs that you can include in your projects. Many of the finest quality and exotic woods are only available as veneers. Veneers are thin slices of wood, approximately 1/32" in thickness. They are adhered to substrates of less expensive wood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF).
Veneers can be arranged on the substrate to present the appearance of a finished board or to produce a variety of patterns. Students will create a radial matched table top .
In this class you will learn how to tune up and sharpen the veneer saw to allow you to make precision cuts. You will learn the various types of matching, such as slip, book, four way and radial matching. We will also cover the use of the proper substrate and the best type of glue to use for your specific application. Borders and inlay will also be a used on your radial matched project. You will also learn the basic use of the vacuum press which we will use to press your project.
