Using veneers expands the types of wood and designs that you can include in your projects. Many of the finest quality and exotic woods are only available as veneers. Veneers are thin slices of wood, approximately 1/32" in thickness. They are adhered to substrates such as medium-density fiberboard (MDF).
Veneers can be arranged on the substrate to present the appearance of a finished board or to produce a variety of patterns.
Friday evening, students will tune and sharpen a veneer saw, and practice cutting and taping. In the morning we will start the chessboard and will be pressing by the end of the day. Tape removal, trimming, edge banding and sanding will take place on Sunday.
