Looking for love in all the wrong places?

Well, if you are a young, broke male or a woman over 40 -- and rich -- perhaps speed dating is your answer. Matchmaking services are now setting up “Cougar Nights,” where young, eager men are given a chance to meet well-to-do women of a certain age.

Cougar has become a popular slang term in recent years, named after the predator cat, for older women who prefer to date younger men.

In fact, when you do a Google search of the word “cougar,” the first thing that pops up is not the wild cat, but the entry from www.urbandictionary.com, which reads: An older woman who frequents clubs in order to score with a much younger man.

Now many dating services are catering to this trend, like Serious Matchmaking Inc., which had one of its “Cougar Nights” profiled by CNN recently.

“Because this event has been so astronomically in demand, I may have to start a new business division called ‘Cougar looking for the boy toy,’” Janis Spindel of Serious Matchmaking told CNN.

There have been many famous “cougar” couples, like Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, who are 16 years apart in age. The silver screen has also touched on the subject from time to time, most famously in “The Graduate.”

At the “Cougar Night” profiled by CNN, all of the women there were worth at least $4 million, while the young men, like 24-year-old Michael, an actor, were admittedly on the lower strata of the socio-economic spectrum, and looking for their Mrs. Robinson.

“Its obviously for older women, sugar mamas and for young men, without any money,” Jim told CNN.
