Jilted Bride Holds Wedding Reception For Charity

Woman Says She Caught Fiance Cheating

Posted: 2:55 pm EDT September 11, 2006

Jilted bride Kyle Paxman, 29, wasn't about to be left at the altar.

She went ahead with her wedding reception this weekend, minus the groom and the nuptials.

Six weeks before she was to be married, Paxman found out her fiance was cheating on her. They had dated for four years. But it was too late to cancel the reception.

So, Paxman and her mother went ahead with the party this weekend at the Basin Harbor Club on Lake Champlain in Vermont. They invited 125 women and asked they contribute to the Vermont Children's Aid Society and CARE USA.

Paxman's mother, Patricia Carbee told the Boston Globe that her daughter had no trouble making her decision when she found out about the alleged infidelity.

"She said she had a wedding to cancel," Carbee said. "She knows the most important thing in a marriage is trust."

Carbee said they began canceling the wedding-related events, but that they were stuck with the bill for the food, open bar, and the rooms at the Harbor Club. So after thinking about it for a while, they decided to turn it into a charity event.

Paxman would not identify her ex-fiance, and the Boston Globe reported that it could not independently verify the allegations.

Paxman is even going ahead with her honeymoon. Now, it's a vacation with her mom in Tahiti.

"I don't feel jilted," Paxman told the paper. "I feel strong, empowered, moving on."
