  • As a freshman at Louisville,
  • Ferry was the 1988-89 college player of the year his senior year at Duke, averaging 22.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He was the second overall pick in the 1989 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, taken behind another member of this list, Pervis Ellison. Ferry had moments in his 13 NBA seasons but still finished his career with a 7.0 points per game average.
  • Greg Oden was freshman phenom at Ohio State in 2006-07, leading the Buckeyes to the national championship game and being named first-team All-American. Oden was the obvious No. 1 overall draft choice of the Portland Trail Blazers when he entered the NBA draft after his freshman season, but he missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury and has since played just 82 NBA games. If Oden can overcome his injuries, he is still just 24-years old and could be a productive starter in the NBA.
  • In the mold fellow Gonzaga guard John Stockton, Dan Dickau averaged 21 points per game (including 117 3-pointers) and was a first-team All-America selection in 2002. Success never transferred to the NBA , however, where he averaged 5.8 points per game in six seasons with six NBA teams.
  • Trajan Langdon shot 43 percent from 3-point-range during his highly decorated college career at Duke. He led the Blue Devils to the 1999 title game and was a two-time All-American. However the first-round pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers averaged just 5.4 points per game in three NBA seasons.
  • Adam Morrison was a stud his junior year at Gonzaga, earning first-team All-America honors in 2005-06, before leaving school early for the NBA. Selected third overall in 2006 NBA draft, Morrison had an OK rookie season, averaging 11.8 points per game, but injuries derailed his career and he played just two more seasons.
  • A three-time All-American, Cleaves led Michigan State to the 2000 national championship. While he was a mid-first-round draft pick of his hometown Detroit Pistons, he could not win the starting job and never played more than 32 games per season after his rookie stint, bouncing around four different NBA cities.
  • Keith Lee was the first player in college basketball history to make four All-American teams, 1982-1985, and led Memphis to the 1985 Final Four. In the NBA, Lee never played a full season in a three-year NBA career, averaging 6.1 points and 4.7 rebounds for the Cavaliers and Nets.
  • Ed O'Bannon was a 1994-95 first-team All-American, the John Wooden Award winner and the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player in a national championship season for UCLA. After being picked ninth by the Nets in the NBA draft, he 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds his rookie season but out of the NBA after his second season.
  • Steve Alford was two-time first-team All-American at Indiana where he played for Bobby Knight. He averaged 19.5 points per game in college, but was never able to find his niche in the NBA, averaging 4.4 points per game in four seasons. Alford returned to college basketball as a coach and led New Mexico to a 30-win season in 2010.
