Kelly Papariella, Before

Kelly and her sister Lisa are both taking part in The Great Diet Challenge. Kelly is following the South Beach Diet, her sister Lisa is trying the Smoothie diet.

Kelly is a grad student in chemistry. She is taking a trip to Florida next spring and wants to be in bathing suit shape for the beach.

In the past, Kelly has tried Weight Watchers and Slim Fast and tries to exercise when she can, however with grad school it can be hard to find time.

Both Kelly and her sister believe it will be easier to loose weight with people watching them.

Kelly's Diet Diary

Week 1

So far, the South Beach Diet is going well for me! I have more energy than I did before the diet started. I do miss eating all of the sugary sweets, of course, but the no sugar added sweets that I am allowed to eat somewhat makes up for that :-) The first couple of days have been a little hard for me because I was so used to eating whatever I wanted, but I am getting used to it! I am trying to do some exercises 4 days a week that include some cardio and also a little bit of toning for about an hour each day...who knows I may even do them 5 days a week

Week 2

Last week was pretty hectic between teaching my lab, doing my lab work, writing my loooong paper, and preparing for my presentation that is coming up. I didn't have much time to eat let alone cook! It was very hard not to go to the vending machine at school and grab a snack, but I stuck to my string cheese, pistachios, and other healthy snacks.

Week 3

This weekend was a little bit easier to stick to the diet than last weekend was because I wasn't on the road at all. The hardest time for me was during the Steelers game...we always have chips, pretzels, and other high-carb snacks during the game, so it was definitely hard to keep my hands out of the snack bowls! I treated myself to some sugar-free pudding after the game to reward myself for not snacking on the carbs during the game!

Week 4

I'm not sure the last diet entry, so I will start from the weekend. The weekend was tough because my boyfriend came down to visit. I did give in to some temptations...making this past weekend the worst for me :-( But I have full confidence in myself that I can get back on track during the week!

My boyfriend stayed until Thursday morning, but I did much better during the week with the diet. I am starting Phase 1 again to put me back on track since the cravings for high carb foods has returned. This way, if I can remove the cravings once again, I will be able to lose the weight that I want to. Also, I haven't been as good with the exercising because I have been so busy lately, but I am getting back on track with that, too. Only 1 1/2 weeks left! I really want to pull through in the end!

Week 5

Well, after seeing my story aired on Thursday night, I felt very motivated once again to finish up well with the south beach diet. I did my exercises, and have been eating well since the unofficial weigh in. I feel as if I had lost more weight than the scale mentioned, but I guess I will have to wait until the official final weigh in to see what I really lost. I feel great though, and my clothes are bigger on me - I can even wear some clothes that I haven't been able to in a while!

The weekend went pretty well actually. I stuck to the diet for the majority of the weekend, but I did go to my cousin's birthday party on Saturday evening. I gave into a piece of the ice cream cake, but didn't eat all of the snacks that were lying around. There was no cheating during the Steeler's game this weekend either, which I was very proud of myself for! One more week to go...lets see how I do!
