'Indiana Jones 5' with Harrison Ford will be delayed a year until 2021

We're going to have to wait a year longer before we see Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones on the big screen again.

Walt Disney Studios announced Tuesday that Ford's still-untitled return to his famed Indiana Jones character would be delayed from July 10, 2020, the movie's original release date, to July 9, 2021.

No explanation was given for the delay. The film promises to bring back Ford as the iconic adventurer, along with director Steven Spielberg, for the fifth and final time.

Ford will turn 79 the week of the movie's new release.

The Hollywood Reporter says the project has been delayed by "script issues." Jonathan Kasdan, son of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, is being brought on to write a new draft of the feature.

Ford introduced Jones in Spielberg's 1981 adventure classic "Raiders of the Lost Ark," followed by 1984’s "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," 1989’s "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and 2008’s "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

Disney studios also formalized the title "Maleficent 2" for Angelina Jolie's screen return, and it set for May 29, 2020.

The Disney updates included a schedule change for an untitled Marvel project, which moves from July 30, 2021, up to Feb. 12, 2021.

The 2021 film could be a new superhero origin story, "Guardians of the Galaxy 3," or perhaps “Black Panther 2.” The first "Black Panther" was released Feb. 16 and earned $1.34 billion in worldwide box office.
