American League Game Summary - Texas At Minnesota

POSTED: 1:24 am EDT May 20, 2008

(Sports Network) - Howie Clark ripped a game-winning hit over Josh Hamilton's head in the 12th inning, giving the Minnesota Twins a 7-6 victory over the Texas Rangers in the opener of a four-game series at the Metrodome.

Alexi Casilla drove in three runs with his first career home run and Joe Mauer was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a walk for the Twins. It was only Minnesota's second win in its last seven games.

Bobby Korecky (1-0) tossed 1 2/3 perfect innings for Minnesota to earn his first major league win. He also recorded his first major league hit in the 11th.

"It's exciting to win like this," Korecky said. "We've had a lot of close games lately and lost a few, so to come back like this at home in the first game of the series hopefully can get us back rolling again and we'll see what we can do."

Minnesota starter Boof Bonser threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs - three earned - on six hits without issuing a walk. He struck out five.

Milton Bradley was 2-for-6, scoring twice with an RBI and Hamilton was 2-for-6 with his 11th home run of the season for the Rangers, who dropped their second straight game after taking 13 of 17 overall.

Texas starter Scott Feldman surrendered five runs on seven hits and two walks through six innings.

Franklyn German (1-3) came on to work the 12th for Texas. Carlos Gomez led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a groundout. Clark then hit a ball over the outstretched glove of Hamilton to plate Gomez for the winning run.

Texas started the scoring with a two-out homer to left-center from Hamilton in the first.

Texas added another run in the third on a two-out homer from Ian Kinsler.

Minnesota got on the board in the bottom half. An error by Hamilton allowed Brendan Harris to advance to third on a two-out single and Mauer followed with a single to left.

Minnesota came back in the fourth to take the lead on Casilla's home run.

The Twins tacked on another run in the sixth when Delmon Young stroked a one- out triple and Mike Lamb followed with a sac fly for a 5-2 edge.

Texas cut the lead to one in the seventh with two runs. Bradley and Brandon Boggs singled around an out and Frank Catalanotto reached on a throwing error by Bonser to load the bases. Jarrod Saltalamacchia singled to left, plating two and chasing Bonser from the contest. Matt Guerrier came on to record the final two outs.

The Rangers came back to take the lead in the eighth. Michael Young led off with a single and Dennys Reyes came in to replace Guerrier. Bradley stroked a double to center scoring Michael Young and David Murphy followed with a single to give Texas its first lead at 6-5.

C.J. Wilson came on for the ninth and issued consecutive one-out walks before uncorking a wild pitch, advancing the runners to second and third. Mauer followed with a single to center, plating Craig Monroe with the tying run.

Morneau grounded a ball to third, but the Rangers got the out at home and Michael Cuddyer grounded out to send the game to extras.

The Rangers loaded the bases in the 11th with one out, but Korecky came on and got Kinsler to fly out to right and set down Michael Young on strikes to escape the inning.

Game Notes:

Texas has the best record in the major leagues since April 25th (15-7)...The Rangers have won seven consecutive series, matching the second longest streak in team history, yet the club is still two games under .500 (22-24)...Cuddyer started in center field for the Twins for the first time in his career, moving over from his normal right field position; Cuddyer has now played every position in the field for the team at least once except for pitcher and catcher...Jason Kubel got the start in right field...Texas started a 10-game road trip Monday night.
