Seattle, WA -- (Sports Network) - Daisuke Matsuzaka was convincing on the mound and Manny Ramirez went 1-for-3, extending his hit streak to 11 games, as the Boston Red Sox staved off a late rally to edge the Seattle Mariners, 4-2, in the middle contest of a three-game set.Matsuzaka (11-1) tossed 7 1/3 innings and gave up only two runs on five hits, while fanning six and walking three. Matsuzaka was touched for the runs in the eighth inning, which halted his scoreless innings streak at 24 2/3. Jonathan Papelbon threw a perfect ninth for his 30th save of the year. J.D. Drew had a solo home run for the Red Sox, who are just 2-3 over their last five games. Dustin Pedroia went 1-for-4 and has now hit safely in 23 consecutive road games and 24 of his last 25 games overall. "I haven't gotten many hits since the break," Drew said. "I wanted to come into tonight's game and try to put a couple good swings on the ball, try to rack up some hits, and was able to get a couple." R.A. Dickey (2-5) was dealt the loss as he was hit for four runs on nine hits in six-plus frames. "I had a pretty good knuckleball," Dickey said. "They waited on pitches to hit. I gave up nine hits, five of them were non-knuckleball pitches, so I got a little bit too aggressive with my fastball tonight." Ichiro Suzuki had a double, an RBI and a pair of walks for the Mariners, who have dropped four straight and seven of nine. Jose Lopez had the other RBI for Seattle. Drew clubbed a two-out homer in the first to put the Sox up 1-0. Boston struck again in the fifth inning. There were runners on the corners as Jacoby Ellsbury and Pedroia opened the frame with singles. Drew then offered a sac fly and Ramirez followed with a single before Mike Lowell hit an RBI double. Kevin Youkilis was intentionally walked and Jed Lowrie hit a sac fly to make it 4-0. Seattle got on the board in the eighth. Bryan LaHair led off the inning with a single to right, his first major league hit, before Yuniesky Betancourt flied out. Suzuki then belted an RBI double to the gap in right and Lopez followed with an RBI single before Hideki Okajima was called in from the bullpen to get out of the jam. Papelbon was trying to close it out for the Sox in the ninth and got Adrian Beltre to fly out to Coco Crisp in center. Jeremy Reed then flied to left for the second out and Kenji Johjima grounded to third to seal the win.
