Indians Activate Betancourt From DL, Option Sowers

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians activated pitcher Rafael Betancourt from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday and optioned pitcher Jeremy Sowers to Triple-A Columbus.

Betancourt, who was on the DL since June 1 with a strained right groin, is 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA in 25 games this season. The righty has struck out 29 batters and walked just 14 in 26 2/3 innings of work in 2009.

Sowers owns a 2-7 record with a 5.77 ERA in 11 games -- 10 starts -- this season. The lefty last pitched on Tuesday in a loss to the White Sox, allowing four runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He's been tagged for nine runs over his last 11 1/3 innings.
