Pirates Open Season Before Sold-Out Crowd

Monday, the Pittsburgh Pirates will take on the Chicago Cubs before a sold-out, standing-room-only crowd at PNC Park.

Fans will find many new features this year, including a new all-you-can-eat section.

The seats are in section 147, in the right field corner and are available for every Sunday through Thursday home game, except for the home opener. The tickets are $35 in advance, $40 for walk-ups. The price includes your ticket and other goodies.

Pirates President Frank Coonelly said, “It's traditional ballpark fare with more diet-conscious items, such as salad for those who would enjoy a salad more than traditional ballpark fare, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, nachos, popcorn, peanuts, soda.”

Fans can also get ice cream. Each person can get four of each item per trip to dedicated concession stands. Water and alcoholic beverages will be sold at nearby stands.

Another park addition is the new Hall of Fame Club. It's where the Outback Steakhouse used to be. And anyone with a ticket can get in.

“We think this will really be a great place for our fans to come after the game, to relax, to unwind and to enjoy a concert here,” Coonelly said.

The official team store now sells game-used memorabilia, including baseball equipment used by the Pirates. And some areas have bigger seats with extra padding and a cup holder in every armrest.

Of course, opening day means parking restrictions.

The Roberto Clemente Bridge will close to drivers at 10 a.m. And all parking lots and garages on the North Shore are closed to commuter traffic.

The North Shore parking lot near PNC Park will open at 9:30 a.m. with event rates. Gates open at 11:30 a.m.

The first pitch will be at 1:35 p.m.
