Phoenix, AZ -- (Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired veteran first baseman Tony Clark Thursday in exchange for minor league pitcher Evan Scribner from the San Diego Padres.

Clark spent the 2005 through 2007 seasons with Arizona before signing a one- year contract with San Diego prior to the 2008 campaign.

"We are thrilled to bring Tony back to Arizona," Diamondbacks senior vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes said. "He certainly was a key ingredient to our success last year, and we hope he can contribute to another postseason run in 2008."

In 88 at-bats this year, the 36-year-old has hit .239 with one home run and 11 RBI in mostly pinch-hit situations, a season after compiling 17 home runs and 51 RBI for the D'Backs.

The second overall pick of the 1990 MLB Draft spent seven years in Detroit before one-year stints with Boston and both New York franchises. Clark has compiled a .264 batting average, 245 home runs and 800 RBI throughout his 14- year career.

The right-handed Scribner, who turns 23 Saturday, was 0-1 with a 1.86 earned run average with one save in six appearances in Single-A Visalia. He was promoted from South Bend, where he was perfect in eight save opportunities, going 2-3 with a 1.57 ERA.
