National League Game Summary - San Francisco At Colorado

POSTED: 1:36 am EDT May 20, 2008

(Sports Network) - Clint Barmes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, increasing his hit streak to 12 games, as the Colorado Rockies edged the San Francisco Giants, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game set from Coors Field.

Garrett Atkins went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rockies, who have rattled off three wins in a row on the heels of a six-game skid. Matt Holliday also went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Yorvit Torrealba added a two- run double in the win.

"It's still early, there's plenty of time for us to put something together," Barmes said. "We certainly showed we could do that last year. Don't count us out. It's still real early."

Jorge De La Rosa got the start for Colorado, but didn't factor in the decision, as he went 5 1/3 innings and was hit for three runs -- two earned -- on four hits. Jason Grilli (1-1) got the win after he pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up just one hit. Brian Fuentes earned his sixth save of the year as he gave up just one hit in the ninth.

Randy Winn went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and finished with two RBI and two runs scored to increase his hit streak to 14 games for the Giants, who have dropped six straight contests. Fred Lewis had two triples and scored once. Rich Aurilia drove in the other run for the Giants.

San Francisco starter Pat Misch gave up three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. The loss was chalked up to Vinnie Chulk (0-3), who gave up a run on a hit in two-thirds of an inning.

Trailing 3-1, the Rockies rallied in the bottom of the sixth. Holliday led off with a double and crossed home on Atkins' single. Todd Helton flied out, but then Chulk took over on the mound. Ryan Spilborghs worked a walk, Jeff Baker went down swinging but Torrealba cracked a two-run double to put Colorado on top, 4-3.

"It was a first-pitch sinker," Chulk said. "I hit my spot, but you know, it's not a good pitch selection right there."

Winn wasted no time extending his hitting streak to 14 games, as he connected on a solo homer in the first inning.

The Giants tacked on another run in the third, as Lewis led the frame off with a triple. Two batters later, Winn belted a sac fly to center to make it 2-0.

Barmes led off the fourth with a home run to make it a one-run game.

San Francisco added another in the sixth. Winn reached on a fielding error by Baker and Aaron Rowand put runners on the corners with a single. Grilli then took over on the mound and surrendered an RBI single to Aurilia, and the Giants were up 3-1.

Game Notes:

The Rockies bullpen didn't give up a run in 3 2/3 innings...These two clubs met in San Francisco in late April, with the Giants taking two of three over the Rockies...Attendance was 28,362.
