Los Angeles Dodgers (49-50) At Colorado Rockies (43-58), 9:05 P.m.
(Sports Network) - One night after putting on a prolific offensive display, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies square off again this evening at Coors Field in a matchup between National League West foes. The Dodgers got the upper hand of the slugfest in Monday's opener of this three-game series, as the co-division leaders scored eight times in the first inning en route to a 16-10 victory over the Rockies. James Loney led Los Angeles' offensive onslaught by going 3-for-5 with five runs batted in, while Jeff Kent ended 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Andre Ethier and Angel Berroa each contributed two hits and a pair of RBI to the winning effort. The Dodgers roared out to an 11-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings and were up 16-3 entering the bottom of the fifth. The Rockies managed seven runs over their final five at-bats, including two in the bottom of the ninth, but that wasn't enough to avoid the club having its four-game win streak snapped. Matt Holliday and Brad Hawpe each collected three hits and three RBI for Colorado, with Holliday adding a home run on the night. Troy Tulowitzki, activated from the disabled list prior to Monday's game, went 5-for-5 with an RBI in his return to the Rockies' lineup. Kip Wells was also reinstated from the DL for last night's tilt, but the Colorado pitcher's comeback didn't go nearly as well as Tulowitzki's. Wells (1-2) only recorded one out and was torched for eight runs (7 earned) on seven hits before being yanked in the opening inning. Monday's triumph, the fourth in the last five games for the Dodgers, kept Joe Torre's squad in a first-place tie with Arizona in the NL West race. The Diamondbacks defeated Chicago on Monday. The Dodgers may find runs harder to come by against Ubaldo Jimenez tonight. The young Colorado hurler is 3-1 with a 2.39 earned run average over his last four starts and has been tough at Coors Field this season. In 10 home outings in 2008, Jimenez has compiled a 4-2 record along with an impressive 2.80 ERA. The right-hander is coming off a victory over Pittsburgh on Thursday in his first start after the All-Star break. Jimenez held the Pirates to three runs and just five hits over seven innings in Colorado's 5-3 win. Jimenez is 2-0 in five career games (4 starts) against Los Angeles despite pitching to a 7.32 ERA over the course of those meetings. The 24-year-old was rocked for six runs and seven hits in just 2 1/3 innings during a no-decision at Dodgers Stadium in April. Clayton Kershaw takes another crack at an elusive first major league victory when he toes the rubber for the Dodgers tonight. The highly-touted lefty went 0-2 with a 4.42 ERA in eight starts before being sent back down to the minors three weeks ago, but dominated during his recent stint with Double-A Jacksonville. In three starts following his demotion, Kershaw picked up two wins and yielded just two earned runs over an 18-inning span. In his most recent mound trip, the 20-year-old phenom gave up just one hit over five shutout frames for Jacksonville on Thursday. Kershaw faced the Rockies at Dodger Stadium on June 4 and was handed a loss despite giving up two runs on five hits over five innings. He did strike out five Colorado hitters, however. Los Angeles has won seven of their 10 2008 meetings with the Rockies and took two of three games from Colorado at Coors Field back in May. The Dodgers were just 2-7 as the visitor in this series last year, however.
