Orioles' Scott Wins AL Player Of The Week Honors

(Sports Network) - Baltimore Orioles outfielder Luke Scott has been named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending July 20.

In four games after the All-Star break, Scott hit .538 (7-for-13) with three home runs, six runs batted in, four runs scored and two doubles. On July 18 the 30-year-old hit two home runs, leading the Orioles to a 7-4 victory over Detroit. He also hit a game-winning homer in the 10th inning of Baltimore's 11-10 win against the Tigers on Saturday. Scott posted a 1.385 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage during the four-game series against Detroit.

Scott is hitting .267 with 17 homers and 40 RBI on the season. This marks the first time the outfielder has won the weekly honor.

Other nominees included Orioles' third baseman Melvin Mora (.400 AVG, three homers, seven RBI), Mariners' outfielder Raul Ibanez (.455 AVG, two homers, five RBI), Yankees' second baseman Robinson Cano (.571 AVG, one home run, three RBI) and Indians' left-handed pitcher Cliff Lee (1-0, 2.00 earned run average, one complete game).
