(Sports Network) - Big right-hander Daniel Cabrera tries for a second win in nine starts tonight when the Baltimore Orioles open a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

Cabrera, who stands 6-foot-9 and weighs 269 pounds, improved to 5-1 with a 12-2 defeat of the New York Yankees in the Bronx on May 20. He's just 1-3 in eight starts since, however, as his record has plunged to 6-4 and his earned run average has ballooned to 4.34.

The one victory did come in his last start, though, when he went the distance against the Kansas City Royals, allowing seven hits and two runs, while walking none and striking out two in a 5-2 win on July 2.

He is 4-7 in 14 lifetime starts against Toronto with a 4.39 ERA in 82 innings.

Toronto right-hander Dustin McGowan dropped a 4-3 decision to the Orioles on April 14 and is 0-3 against them in seven career games - four starts - over 26 1/3 innings.

He won four of five decisions overall between May 25 and June 22, but has since lost consecutive outings to Atlanta and Seattle on June 27 and July 2, respectively.

He allowed a combined 14 hits and eight runs over 13 1/3 innings in those two games, walking four batters and striking out nine.

McGowan's last win came at Pittsburgh, when he scattered nine hits and allowed three earned runs in five innings.

On Sunday in Baltimore, David Murphy went 3-for-6 with a three-run home run to help the Texas Rangers squeak by the Orioles, 11-10, in the rubber match of a three-game set.

Baltimore's Kevin Millar was 4-for-4 with a double and solo home run, while Nick Markakis hit a three-run homer during a 3-for-5 effort at the plate, extending his hitting streak to a career-high 14 games. Brian Roberts and Melvin Mora also hit home runs in the loss.

Radhames Liz (3-1) was pounded for six runs -- four earned -- in just 3 2/3 innings for the Orioles, who have fallen in three of their last four games. Jim Johnson only recorded two outs in relief and gave up four runs.

In Anaheim, Jon Garland allowed one run in a complete game, and Jeff Mathis went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, as the Los Angeles Angels topped Toronto, 7-1, in the rubber match of a three-game series.

Jesse Litsch (8-5) took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 frames for Toronto, which has lost four of five. Litsch has lost four of his last five decisions.

Rod Barajas homered for the Blue Jays, who wrapped up their six-game road trip 2-4 and have lost 13 of their past 17 road games.

Baltimore has won three of its five meetings with the Jays this season.
