Minneapolis, MN -- (Sports Network) - Glen Perkins picked up his first major league victory and the Minnesota Twins offense pounded out 13 hits in taking the second installment of a four-game series, 11-4, over the Texas Rangers at the Metrodome.

Perkins (1-1) allowed three runs - two earned - on six hits without issuing a walk in his third career start. He struck out three to give the Twins their second straight victory after dropping five of six.

Joe Mauer was 3-for-4, scoring twice and knocking in a run and Delmon Young knocked in two and scored two. Alexi Casilla and Mike Lamb both added two RBI for the Twins.

"It was good to get the offense going and get quick outs," Perkins said. "I told Joe (Mauer) before the game, just put down the fingers and I'll throw what you call and that's what we did."

Josh Hamilton was 2-for-5 and added his major-league leading 51st RBI, while Ian Kinsler was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for Texas, which dropped its third straight.

Rangers starter Doug Mathis (1-1) lasted just 2 1/3 frames, surrendering nine runs - six earned - on eight hits and four walks in making his first major league start after three appearances in the bullpen.

Minnesota started off the scoring in the first with a leadoff triple from Carlos Gomez. Casilla followed with a single, plating one and Mauer doubled to move Casilla to third. Michael Cuddyer grounded into a fielder's choice with Casilla thrown out a home, but an error by catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia allowed Mauer to score for a 2-0 lead.

The Twins batted around in the third, racking up seven runs. Minnesota opened the inning with three consecutive singles from Casilla, Mauer and Justin Morneau, who drove in the first tally of the frame. Cuddyer followed with a double down the right field line to plate the second, and Morneau scored on an error by Kinsler off a Delmon Young grounder.

Lamb followed with a single to score Cuddyer, and Adam Everett grounded into a force out plating another. Gomez then walked to end Mathis' night.

Franklyn German came on for Mathis and promptly walked Casilla to plate the sixth run of the inning. Mauer lifted a sac fly to score Everett, bringing the scoring to a close and leaving Minnesota with a 9-0 lead after three.

"It zaps your energy standing on the field that long," Hamilton said. "It's hard to come back after that, your confidence level might not be there but I'm proud of the way we came back and rallied out. Hopefully we can carry some momentum into tomorrow."

Texas came alive in the seventh but could only cut the lead to six. The Rangers had the bases loaded with one out before Saltalamacchia and German Duran ripped back-to-back RBI singles, chasing Perkins.

Brian Bass came on in relief and allowed a Kinsler RBI single.

The Twins came right back and erased two of those runs off Texas' Josh Rupe on a Delmon Young RBI triple followed by a Lamb sac fly.

Texas added a run in the ninth off Bass on a Hamilton RBI single.

Twins rookie infielder Matt Tolbert, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a torn ligament in his left thumb, will have surgery this Thursday and be out at least four and a half weeks before starting a rehabilitation program...Texas is in the second game of a 10-game road trip taking them to Cleveland and Tampa Bay following the four-game series in Minnesota...Minnesota holds a 16-15 head-to-head edge against Texas since the beginning of the 2005 season...Milton Bradley extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the second inning.
