A-Rod's Wife Files For Divorce

Monday, July 7, 2008

(Sports Network) - Cynthia Rodriguez, the wife of New York Yankees All-Star third baseman Alex Rodriguez, has filed for divorce in a Miami court.

The New York post reported that Cynthia Rodriguez filed the papers Monday morning.

The divorce petition comes just days after a media frenzy in New York linked the slugger to music superstar Madonna. According to the Post, Cynthia Rodriguez will cite a "long period of infidelity on the part of Mr. Rodriguez" and "emotional abandonment."

Lawyer Maurice Kutner told the newspaper that Alex Rodriguez's "relationship with Madonna was the latest situation in a series of events" that doomed the marriage.

Meanwhile Madonna has publicly denied an affair with the reigning AL MVP.

"I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us. I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez," Madonna said in a statement released by her publicist.

Alex Rodriguez, who is hitting .323 this year, clubbed his 18th home run of the season and 536th of his stellar career, tying Yankees great Mickey Mantle for 13th place on the all-time big league list in the Yankees' 5-4 win over Boston Sunday.
