Kansas City, MO -- (Sports Network) - Adrian Beltre reached base on a fluke double in the ninth, and scored the go-ahead run on John Buck's throwing error in a rundown between third and home, and the Seattle Mariners held on for a 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals to salvage the finale of a three-game set. Jeff Clement hit a two-run homer for the Mariners, who had dropped six of seven entering play and enter the All-Star break with the worst record in the AL at 37-58. Carlos Silva gave up two runs on eight hits in six innings, and Sean Green (2-2) got the win for 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. "It's really good to help the team win a game right before the break," said Clement. "It's good for the team to get one here after we let a couple go, very winnable games. To come back today and battle back after being down, I feel, was really good for the ballclub." Kyle Davies gave up six hits and three runs in seven innings, and Joakim Soria (1-2) took the loss for giving up the unearned run in the ninth. Mike Aviles went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in for Kansas City, which had won three straight, and fell to 43-53 entering the break. Beltre led off the eighth with a pop to shallow center that deflected off Aviles' glove and fell in for a double, and Jeremy Reed bunted him over to third. Willie Bloomquist grounded right back to the pitcher, though, and Beltre was caught in a rundown. Buck's bad throw to third sailed into left, though, allowing Beltre to cross with the go-ahead run. "Things don't go sometimes the way we want. That's it. It's human and we all make mistakes," said Soria. Arthur Rhodes got the first out of the ninth, and Brandon Morrow retired the next two batters for his 9th save. Mark Teahen gave the Royals the early lead with a two-out RBI single to center in the third. The Mariners tied the game in the fifth. Bloomquist led off with a single to right, moved to second on a wild pitch by Davies, and scored on Miguel Cairo's single to right. Ross Gload walked to lead off the home half, stole second, and headed to third on a Buck groundout. Aviles' infield single allowed Gload to cross home for a 2-1 Kansas City lead. Davies cruised into the seventh inning, and got two quick outs. Bloomquist poked a single to left, though, and Clement caught up to a high fastball and sent it just over the fence in right to give Seattle a 3-2 lead. Gload and Buck both singled to start the seventh, and moved up on David DeJesus' sacrifice bunt. Aviles plated the tying run with a groundout, but Teahen couldn't get the go-ahead run home, as he grounded out.Game Notes:Clement's homer was his fifth of the season...The Royals outhit the Mariners, 10-8...Alex Gordon went 2-for-4 for the Royals...Bloomquist went 2-for-3 and scored twice for Seattle.
