American League Game Summary - Texas At Chicago

POSTED: 11:53 pm EDT July 22, 2008

(Sports Network) - Mark Buehrle pitched 7 1/3 solid frames and the bottom of the White Sox order provided the pop, as Chicago blew away Texas, 10-2, in the second test of a three-game set at U.S. Cellular Field.

Buehrle (8-8) found comfort against a familiar foe, toeing the rubber against Texas for the first time since no-hitting the Rangers last season. The southpaw scattered six hits without a walk and three strikeouts in winning for the sixth time in his last eight decisions, lowering his earned run average to 3.56.

"I don't worry about Mark Buehrle pitching on short notice. Nothing bothers this guy. He just goes out there and throws the same game every single time out," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said.

Nick Swisher hit a three-run home run and Alexei Ramirez hit a game-breaking grand slam in the seventh.

Luis Mendoza (2-4) struggled on the hill for Texas, giving up six runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks in four-plus frames. Chris Davis hit a solo home run and Marlon Byrd drove home the other Texas run.

"Good pitching stops good hitting. I keep saying that but nobody listens," said Texas manager Ron Washington.

The White Sox jumped out in front to stay in the first on Jermaine Dye's RBI double then put a four-spot on the scoreboard in the fourth. Swisher's three- run homer highlighted the scoring spree with A.J. Pierzynski's single plating the other run.

Paul Konerko's double play grounder scored another run for a 6-0 lead in the fifth and Ramirez pushed the edge to 10-0 with his first-career grand slam in the seventh.

Texas put both of its runs on the scoreboard in the eighth. Ian Kinsler scored on Byrd's bases-loaded walk following Davis' solo shot to kick off the inning.

Game Notes:

Buehrle improved to 10-3 against the Rangers in his career. The southpaw threw 59 of his 91 pitches for strikes...White Sox pitcher Nick Masset was hit in the chest by a baseball and left the game after giving up one run on three hits while recording just one out in the eighth...Attendance was 32,670.
