Toy Retailers, Makers Slashing Prices To Boost Sales

In an attempt to overcome sagging sales, many area retailers and toy makers are selling toys at discounted prices this holiday season.

Walmart is cutting the prices of ten of its most popular toys, selling them for $10 each.

Target is following suit. The retailer is offering toys on Walmart’s top-ten list, such as the Play-Doh Ice Cream Shop, for $10, as well.

Whatever price cuts another toy retailer may take, we will stay competitive with them this season,” said Michael Shaffer, Target Store Team Leader.

Amazon.com is offering a “Monday Markdown” promotion on toys for sale.

Recently, the online retailer was selling a Baby Alive doll for $19.99 during this promotion—a price that is $5 cheaper than that at Target and Walmart.

A Matchbox Mega Rig Space Shuttle was selling for $26.99 on Amazon’s Monday promotion, which is almost $10 less than Toys R Us and Walmart.

Toy retailers aren’t the only ones offering deals; some toy makers are offering them, as well.

Mattel has a program called Barbie Bucks that rewards customers who buy $100 of select Barbie products. In return, they get a $50 prepaid VISA card.
