Nordstrom Uses Price Matching To Lure Shoppers

Department stores are being hard hit by the slow economy, with many reporting big declines in sales.

High-end stores like Nordstrom and Saks are trying to pull in shoppers by making sure they know about store policies like price matching.

A Nordstrom representative told Channel 11 News it has put up signs in all its stores informing customers about its policy to match prices. If a customer finds a like item at a lower price at a different store Nordstrom will match that price.

The store has had the policy for years, but because of the current economic climate it is making sure customers know about it.

Nordstrom said it has sharpened its prices on its private label and is working with vendors to give customers the best deal it can.

A Nordstrom representative gave these examples:

True Religion jeans that sold for $178 last year are now $99 and a cashmere wrap that sold for $118 last year is now $89.

Nordstrom has also extended its double-rewards points program has been extended until the end of December and also hopes regular customers like the personal services it offers like a concierge that can pick out, wrap and ship gifts for free.
