PITTSBURGH -- Congress has passed a credit card bill making it tougher for companies to raise credit card fees and interest rates. On the south side, Steve Zumoff hopes the changes will help his Bank Of America bills."The rate was about 13 percent and I got a notice -- they gave me plenty of time -- about two months to pay off my balance or pay a 27 percent interest rate," said Zumoff.Zumoff owns and operates the Double Wide Grill on Carson Street. He pays his bills on time and doesn't like paying for the mistakes of other credit card holders. He's in favor of the credit card reform bill. Here's how it will impact your monthly statement: No rate raising on current balances, unless your payment is 60 days late. No rate jump in the first year you have an account. And those teaser rates you get at first have to last six months. But the protections come at a price everyone could end up paying.Credit experts say that because it's going to get harder for credit card companies to make money from people who pay late, they're going to go after good customers who pay up on time every month. That will likely mean fewer rewards programs, and more companies charging annual fees.
