Grizzlies Sign First-Round Picks Mayo, Arthur

POSTED: 4:01 pm EDT July 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies signed first round draft choices guard O.J. Mayo and forward Darrell Arthur on Tuesday. Per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Mayo was selected third overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves but was dealt to Memphis in a blockbuster, draft day deal that sent Kevin Love, the fifth overall selection, to the Timberwolves as part of an eight-player trade.

The USC product averaged 20.7 points and 3.3 assists as a freshman becoming a finalist for the Naismith and Wooden Awards.

Arthur was selected by the New Orleans Hornets with the 17th pick but was dealt twice to Portland and then Houston before Memphis acquired his rights in exchange for Donte Green, who was chosen 28th, and a 2009 second-round pick.

The 6-foot-9, 225-pound Arthur averaged 12.8 points and 6.3 rebounds as a sophomore for the national-champion Kansas Jayhawks.

Both players are scheduled to take part in the NBA Summer League from July 11-20 in Las Vegas.
