Report: Magic Ink G Pietrus

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Orlando Magic have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with former Golden State Warriors guard Mickael Pietrus on a multi-year contract, general manager Otis Smith confirmed to the Florida Today newspaper Tuesday.

The deal is expected to be for almost all of the $5.2 million Mid-Level Exception next season.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound shooting guard averaged just 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in the 2007-08 campaign, getting his playing time chopped by seven minutes a contest from a season before, when he tallied 11.1 points and 4.5 boards in almost 27 minutes a game in a surprising playoff run for the Warriors.

The five-year veteran -- all with Golden State -- is a career 35.3 percent three-point shooter and will certainly upgrade the Magic's defense in the backcourt.

The departure of the Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, France native is another loss for the Warriors, who saw the face of the franchise, guard Baron Davis, reach a verbal agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers just last week.
