Off-duty trooper chases down burglary suspect in Washington Co.

CANONSBURG, Pa. — A Canonsburg man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police said he was caught trying to steal money from a Washington County convenience store.

According to police, Shawn Lenehan was arrested as he tried to run from Seven Hills on Euclid Avenue just before 5 p.m. Sunday.

An off-duty state trooper, Kevin Dejulius, chased Lenehan, 24, after he said he noticed him leave the store with a bulge in his sweatshirt pocket.

Officers said Lenehan had the store’s cash box, gold earrings and drug paraphernalia on him when he was arrested. He faces several charges, including theft, burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pramod Patel, the owner of the store, wasn’t there during the incident, but said he’s grateful someone was looking out for him.

“It’s good the trooper was in the right place at the right time,” Patel said. “We got back the money.”
