1 killed in 3-vehicle accident on Route 40 in Fayette County

FAYETTE COUNTY, Pa. — A motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle accident on Route 40 in Fayette County Sunday.

Officials say Delbert Lee Griffith, 73, of Uniontown, was traveling east on Route 40 and made a U-turn across the westbound lane, coming to a stop along the shoulder behind a large sign.

Wayne F. Deaner, 75, of Saxonburg, was traveling westbound on a motorcycle when Griffith re-entered the roadway.

The front tire of Deaner’s motorcycle hit the bumper of Griffith’s vehicle.

The impact caused Deaner to become airborne and travel into the eastbound lane where he hit the front bumper of another vehicle.

Deaner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Griffith and the other driver were not injured.

The incident is under investigation.
