1 killed when car goes over embankment in Cranberry Township

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man was killed Friday after his car went over a hillside early Friday in Butler County.

The crash was reported shortly after 2 a.m. on Powell Road in Cranberry Township.

One vehicle, a silver-colored Volvo, was involved. Police said the car struck several guard rails and went over an 80-foot ravine.

The driver, 32-year-old Kyle Darville, of Cranberry Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they are still investigating the crash, but official said in a news release that "it appears that speed was a prime factor of the crash."

Holly Beemer, a neighbor who heard the crash and rushed to call 911, said she's seen crashes there before.

"They changed the S bend in the road but not quite enough. It's tricky, if you don't know the road or are not paying attention," Beemer said.

She said the speed limit on Powell Road is 35 mph, but rarely obeyed.

The road reopened at about 6 a.m.
