1 person killed in Kilbuck Twp. house fire

KILBUCK TOWNSHIP, Pa. — One person was killed in a Kilbuck Township house fire in early Monday.

More than 100 firefighters were called to Gibson Street near Camp Horne Road shortly after 3 a.m.

Investigators said the victim, identified as Eileen Covel, 53, was just moving into the home the day she died in the fire. There was a moving truck parked outside.

Firefighters told Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic that they had trouble getting to the home because it is on the opposite side of a creek.

"There is a small bridge. We couldn't even get a truck across it, so we had to pump form the street," said Jim Kohl, Emsworth fire chief. "There was a couple hundred feet of hose we had to put down just to get to the fire."

He told Tomazic that their response time was not impacted.

"It was backed up towards the house. It looks like they were in the process of moving out," Ohio Township police chief Norbert Micklos said.

Because the home was destroyed, the fire marshal said the cause will remain undetermined.

A fund for the victim's daughter has been set up at Citizens Bank. Donations can be made to the Eppinger-Covel fund.
