South Side Liquor License Proposal Rejected

Residents, Business Owners Tired Of After-Hours Action

New bars may be on tap for the South Side.

Currently there are 89 active liquor licenses in the neighborhood.

People who live and work there said they don't need any more.

The city Planning Commission rejected a proposal to limit the number of liquor licenses there.

The ordinance would have prevented new bars from opening within 150 feet of existing bars.

The Planning Commission will now do a study to find what impact the ordinance would have on the other 50 neighborhood and commercial districts in the city.

Then the plan may be revised and proposed to city council.

Longtime resident Alberta Broznick said that it's sad to witness what's become of the neighborhood she loves.

City council will have the final say on the matter.

A date for the vote has not been set.
