Animal Friends Says Virus Spreading Through Shelter

PITTSBURGH -- Animal Friends is under quarantine after two dogs tested positive for canine flu.Officials said the flu is contagious and is believed to be spreading through the shelter.Animal Friends believes eight other dogs have also contracted the virus.They are treating the outbreak with 100 percent quarantine.The agency's mission is to find dogs a home. Closing its doors makes that job even harder to do.Kathleen Beaver, of Animal Friends, said, "Canine influenza, just like with humans, the elderly, weak and young are most at risk."Here are some symptoms to look for:If you notice your dog has a rough, dry cough, high fever or is drinking more than usual they may be suffering from dehydration.Also, if your dog is acting lethargic, officials say it may be infected.More Info:
