Carter, 12, suffers from an undiagnosed genetic disorder characterized by multiple orthopedic abnormalities. She underwent six major orthopedic surgeries and was recommended to be a pilot for a day by the staff at Allegheny General Hospital.

"This is amazing. I never thought I'd be able to do anything like this," Carter said.
Throughout the day, Carter underwent parachute training and was sworn-in as an honorary Air Force Reserve 2nd lieutenant. After being sworn in, she held a press conference.
