House Explodes In Harmony Township

Man Burned, Woman Injured In Blast

Channel 11 has learned of a house explosion along Solar Drive in Harmony Township.

The explosion happened around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Residents from as many as 35 homes were evacuated from the neighborhood.

There were a total of 10 fire companies at the scene.

A 44-year-old man was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital with burns to his face, arms and chest.

He is listed in critical condition.

Another woman was also injured.

Two other people were home at the time of the explosion but were not injured.

The victims' identities have not been released.

Channel 11 has learned Columbia Gas received a call of a gas odor shortly before the explosion occurred.

Officials said the explosion could have started in a utility shed.

The exact cause of the explosion is not known at this time.
