CRANBERRY, Pa. -- Foggy conditions are being blamed for a fatal collision between a car and a Cranberry Township ambulance.

The accident happened early Sunday morning on Route 19 in Marshall Township.

Douglas Stitt and Phillip Bacon were in the red Chevrolet Cavalier. Both men died.

The roadway was shut down for nine hours while police investigated the accident.

Drivers told Channel 11 the fog was so thick Sunday morning they could not even see the headlights on the car in front of them.

Driver Mary Kay Boak said, “It was pretty much like a whiteout. You couldn't really see very far in front of you.”

Three people in the ambulance suffered minor injuries. Their names and conditions are not known.

Police do not know if speed played a part in the crash.
