Clairton Teen Charged With 82-Year-Old Neighbor's Death

Ranta Found Stabbed, Beaten Inside Home

A teen murder suspect was arraigned overnight in connection with the death of his 82-year-old neighbor.

Johnie Washington III is facing a long list of charges. The 15-year-old was wearing a restraining vest and shackles during his arraignment in night court. He is being charged as an adult in the murder of Florence Ranta. Johnie Washington also faces charges of burglary, robbery and theft of a vehicle in the October 6 incident on Third Street in Clairton.

According to the affidavit, Johnie Washington assaulted the Florence Ranta in the living room of her home. Neighbors found Florence Ranta lying on her living room floor.

Her sister and brother-in-law told Channel 11 about the crime.
George Apple said, "I can't understand how anyone can do this to a human being.”
"I'll kill him if I see him. I hate to say that, but I will; no one’s going to stop me,” Lenoa Kasmerski said.

Florence Ranta was rushed to a trauma unit at a Pittsburgh hospital, where she died four days later.

Johnie Washington is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bail until his preliminary hearing on Oct. 24.
