After years of talk, and months of delays, Pittsburgh and the Majestic Star are finally set to break ground on a new casino. At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the groundbreaking starts on the $450 million North Shore casino.

Channel 11’s Darieth Chisolm got the chance to sit down with casino owner Don Barden, who said he's being unfairly criticized by interest groups like the Pittsburgh Civic Design Group and the River Life Task Force, which asked Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to delay the groundbreaking over concerns relating to the size and height of the 3,800-space parking garage.

It's the latest in a string of lawsuits by losing bidders, North Shore neighbors concerned about traffic in an area already burdened by Steelers and Pirates game day congestion. Bardon said all of the legal wrangling from those opposing his casino plans is ultimately affecting the taxpayer's bottom dollar.

"It cost the state, with all the delays, to the tune of tens of millions of dollars. I can't let just a handful of people to stop us. The majority of Pittsburghers want this," Barden said.

Channel 11 will be there for the groundbreaking. Look for live coverage today on Channel 11 News at noon.
