DUQUESNE, Pa. - A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in Duquesne.
Police said Leroy Powell and another boy were walking in an alleyway when he was shot.
Officers flooded the area and found shell casings on the ground, Channel 11’s Timyka Artist reported.
“They responded within minutes and found a boy shot in the alleyway,” said Allegheny County Police Assistant Superintendent James Morton.
Police believe Powell was targeted.
“He was walking down to meet someone. Whoever the actors were, they were waiting,” said Morton.
Police believe he was running down the alleyway when he was shot.
Powell died at McKeesport Hospital.
Officials said Powell was the key witness for the prosecution in the case against 15-year-old Eric Taylor who is charged with shooting DaRae Delgado and killing her unborn baby.
When Powell testified last week, video of his statement to police was released. Channel 11 chose not to use that video or his name.
The motive for Wednesday’s ambush is unclear.
Police are searching for two gunmen.
