Gas Leak Forces School, Day Care Evacuation In Penn Hills

PENN HILLS, Pa. -- Construction crews hit a gas line in Penn Hills on Wednesday, and school and day care leaders at Petra Ministries didn't want to take any chances.Hundreds of people were evacuated from the Petra Ministries' day care and school as a precaution.According to officials from Dominion Gas, a third-party contractor was doing work in the area and punctured an 8-inch line in the former East Hills Shopping Center.About 300 children and staff members from the Petra Ministries were loaded onto Port Authority buses and taken to a nearby church in Wilkinsburg.No one was hurt.Repairs to the ruptured gas line are underway.
