Police Arrest 1 Suspect In Va. Shootings

2 People Hurt; Several Vehicles Hit

Virginia State Police said that an arrest has been made in connection with a series of shootings on Interstate 64 west of Charlottesville.

Col. Steve Flaherty of the Virginia State Police said 19-year-old Slade Allen Woodson was arrested at about 5 a.m. EDT Friday. Flaherty said Woodson taken into custody in related to shots being fired at a bank in Waynesboro.

"He is considered to be a suspect in the Interstate 64 shootings," Flaherty said.

Woodson has been charged with one count shooting into occupied building and one count destruction of property, both of which are felonies. Flaherty said there was the possibility of more charges related to the interstate shootings.

The Richmond Times Dispatch said police believe more than one person was involved in the shootings.

The shots were fired late Wednesday or early Thursday. Several vehicles were hit and two people were hurt. Their injuries are not serious.

Virginia state police describe the shootings as random.

Surveillance video shows a light-colored AMC Gremlin with a dark horizontal stripe. That car was found and confiscated Thursday night.
