Pittsburgh Media Appeals Judge's Decision To Shield Wecht Jurors' Names

Former Coroner's Case Ruled Mistrial

Several local news organizations are appealing a federal judge's decision to shield the names of jurors in the Dr. Cyril Wecht case.

WPXI-TV, The Tribune-Review Publishing Company and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette have appealed U.S. District Judge Arthur Schwab's April 8 decision that the names and personal information of the now discharged alternate jurors not be made public until after Wecht's retrial.

The judge declared a mistrial on April 8 in Wecht's first trial after the jury deadlocked.

Wecht is charged with wire fraud, mail fraud and theft for allegedly using his former Allegheny County coroner's staff to benefit his private practice.
