Homeowners Get Tax Break From Pa. Casinos

Posted: 2:23 pm EDT May 1, 2008Updated: 3:35 pm EDT May 2, 2008

New information was released Thursday from the Pennsylvania Department of Education that could put more money in homeowners' pockets.

Pennsylvania will provide its first broad-based property tax relief in 2008-2009, thanks to the state's slots casinos.

As required by law, the Commonwealth's Budget Secretary certified on April 15, 2008, that $612,900,000 will be available in 2008-2009 in state-funded local tax relief. When combined with the expansion of the senior citizen Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, total state-funded property tax relief will reach $786 million next year.

The links below include the total state-funded property tax relief that will be available for each school district, the number of approved homesteads and farmsteads and an estimate of the amount of property tax relief for each homestead and farmstead.

Each school district will determine the actual amount of property tax relief for each homestead and farmstead after it determines its 2008-2009 real estate tax rate.
